COURSE: Chemistry
COURSE LENGTH: One Year
COURSE TYPE: Elective
PREREQUISITES: Modern Algebra
GRADE AVAILABILITY: 10, 11, and 12
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Chemistry is the study of matter, its composition and interactions. This course will stress areas in which a college bound
student should be prepared as well as giving valuable chemical background to a student who is just interested in science.
The class is recommended for juniors and seniors but is open to select sophomores. The first semester concentrates on theory
related to the structure of matter, the periodic table and chemical reactions. The second semester is more mathematical in
nature, concentrating on the mole concept, stoichiometry, heat relationships and the chemistry of gases.

COURSE: Advanced Chemistry COURSE LENGTH: One Year COURSE TYPE: Elective PREREQUISITES: Chemistry GRADE AVAILABILITY: 11,
12. This course is strongly recommended for college bound students who will be pursuing a science-related field such as health,
engineering or pharmacy. Advanced topics include solution chemistry, equilibrium and acid-base chemistry during the first
semester. Second semester topics concentrate on oxidation-reduction, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, nuclear chemistry and
an introduction to organic chemistry.
